East African Community Headquarters, Arusha, Tanzania, February 16, 2015: The Sixteenth Ordinary Summit of the East African Community Heads of State will be held on 20 February 2015 at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre in Nairobi, Kenya. The 16th Summit will be preceded by 30th Extraordinary Meeting of the EAC Council of Minister also in Nairobi, Kenya.
The 16th Ordinary EAC Heads of State Summit will among others consider; Annual Report of the Council of Ministers for the period December 2013 to November 2014; Progress report in the implementation of key outstanding decisions of strategic importance to the East African Community; Appointment of new Judges of the East African Court of Justice; Designation of a new Principal Judge of the East African Court of Justice; Appointment of a new Deputy Secretary General from the Republic of Burundi to replace Mr Jean Claude Nsengiyumva, whose tenure of office will end in April this year; Renewal of contract of Hon. Jesca Eriyo, Deputy Secretary General in charge of Productive and Social Sector and Consideration of a report on selected priority matter.
The change of Chairmanship is also expected at the 16th Ordinary Summit. The Republic of Kenya is the current Chair of the regional bloc.
The 16th Ordinary Summit is expected to be attended by their Excellencies President Jakaya Kikwete of United Republic of Tanzania, Pierre Nkurunziza of Republic of Burundi, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of the Republic of Uganda, Paul Kagame of Republic of Rwanda and the host, Uhuru Kenyatta of the Republic of Kenya.
