BOLT LAUNCHES RIDE-HAILING THROUGH CHATGPT IN TANZANIA, BRINGING AI-POWERED TRAVEL PLANNING

DAR ES SALAAM, Tanzania, August 5, 2026 – Bolt has introduced ride-hailing through ChatGPT in Tanzania, allowing users to begin planning and requesting trips directly within ChatGPT before seamlessly completing their booking in the Bolt app. The launch is part of a global rollout across all markets where Bolt operates, marking a significant step in the evolution of AI-powered mobility.

The integration changes the traditional ride-hailing experience by enabling users to ask ChatGPT about their journey, receive an upfront fare estimate, compare route options, and identify the most convenient pickup location—all without first opening the Bolt app. The booking is then finalised within the Bolt application, with in-chat payment functionality expected to launch later this year.

The move reflects the growing role of artificial intelligence in everyday digital interactions. TANZANIA'S FOREIGN EXCHANGE RESERVES JUMP 24% AS GOLD STRATEGY STRENGTHENS ECONOMY

DAR ES SALAAM; August 5, 2026 – Tanzania's foreign exchange reserves surged by approximately 24 per cent at the end of June, reaching US$6.8 billion, driven by the monetisation of gold deposited at the Bank of England as the Bank of Tanzania (BoT) accelerates efforts to diversify its reserve assets and strengthen the country's external financial resilience.

The reserves increased from US$5.5 billion recorded in May, providing import cover equivalent to approximately five months of projected goods and services imports. The improvement reflects the growing role of gold within the central bank's reserve management strategy.

Gold Becomes a Strategic Reserve Asset

The Bank of Tanzania has incorporated monetised gold into its official reserve management framework, reinforcing the country's ability to withstand foreign exchange pressures and global financial market volatility.

The initiative forms part of the central bank's long-term strategy to diversify international reserves beyond traditional financial assets, positioning gold as a key component of Tanzania's external reserve portfolio.

Gold Holdings Reach 29 Tonnes

Speaking during an exclusive television interview in Dodoma, Bank of Tanzania Governor Emmanuel Tutuba revealed that the country's gold reserves have increased by approximately 271 per cent, reaching 29 tonnes as of July 2026.

According to the Governor:

• 10.6 tonnes have been deposited at the Bank of England and monetised.
• 18.5 tonnes are currently stored in the Bank of Tanzania's vaults.

"As of now, we have accumulated 29 tonnes of refined gold, with 10.6 tonnes deposited at the Bank of England and the rest stored in Tanzania," Mr Tutuba said.

DODOMA, Tanzania, August 4, 2026 – The National Bank of Commerce (NBC) has strengthened its support for Tanzania's agricultural sector by handing over 15 trucks financed through a low-interest loan facility to two of the country's leading agricultural cooperative unions, reinforcing efforts to improve agricultural logistics, enhance market access and empower farmers.

The fleet, comprising 10 trucks for the Kahama Cooperative Union (KACU) and 5 for the Tandahimba and Newala Cooperative Union (TANECU), is expected to enhance crop collection and transportation, lower logistics costs and improve efficiency across the agricultural value chain, benefiting thousands of farmers.

The symbolic handover took place during the 2026 Nanenane Agricultural Exhibition at the Dr. John Malecela Grounds in Dodoma. The event was attended by the Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Dr. Benson Ndiege, senior officials from both cooperative unions, farmers and NBC executives led by the Head of Retail and Agribusiness Banking, Mr. Raymond Urassa.

Speaking during the ceremony, Mr. Urassa said the investment reflects NBC's long-term commitment to driving Tanzania's agricultural transformation through affordable and innovative financing solutions.

TANZANIA, UNITED STATES AGREE TO REVISIT VISA RESTRICTIONS, STRENGTHEN STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP

DAR ES SALAAM; August 3, 2026 – Tanzania and the United States have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, with both countries agreeing to revisit Tanzania's requests regarding visa restrictions affecting Tanzanian citizens travelling to the United States.

The agreement was reached during high-level talks in Dar es Salaam involving Tanzania's Minister for Defence and National Service, Dr Rhimo Nyansaho, Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, and an 11-member United States congressional delegation led by Congressman Ronny Jackson, Chairman of the House Armed Services Subcommittee.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, the discussions focused on key areas of cooperation, including trade, investment, defence and security, as well as regional peace and stability in East and Central Africa.

Expanding Trade and Investment

Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to expanding economic cooperation, particularly in strategic sectors such as liquefied natural gas (LNG), critical minerals, aviation, defence and security.

Tanzania also emphasized the importance of strengthening people-to-people relations by requesting the removal of visa restrictions affecting Tanzanians travelling to the United States, alongside other measures that have been imposed in recent years.

STANDARD CHARTERED FOUNDATION DONATES 21.4M/- TO EMPOWER TANZANIAN WOMEN THROUGH CCBRT PROGRAMME

Dar es Salaam: July 31, 2026 - Standard Chartered Foundation, through Standard Chartered Tanzania, has donated TZS 21.4 million to support CCBRT's Mabinti Programme, reinforcing its commitment to advancing women's economic empowerment and financial inclusion in Tanzania. The funding will provide vocational and financial skills training to 40 women, while also supporting the purchase of sewing machines to help beneficiaries establish sustainable income-generating businesses.

The six-week programme will equip participants with practical skills in crocheting, embroidery, business management and financial literacy, enabling them to build viable livelihoods and improve their long-term economic prospects. The sewing machines purchased through the donation will further enhance their productivity and ability to generate income after completing the training.

CCBRT's Mabinti Programme focuses on empowering vulnerable and underprivileged women, including women with disabilities, survivors of obstetric fistula, young women who have left school, and others facing economic and social exclusion. Through entrepreneurship support and skills development, the programme aims to foster financial independence and improve quality of life.

The latest contribution builds on an existing partnership between Standard Chartered Tanzania and CCBRT. Earlier this year, during International Women's Day celebrations, the Bank donated 12 sewing machines to the Mabinti Centre and conducted financial literacy training for programme participants, underscoring its ongoing commitment to women's empowerment through practical support and knowledge sharing.

BAYPORT MARKS 20 YEARS WITH TZS 100 MILLION ICT DONATION TO BOOST DIGITAL EDUCATION IN KIBAMBA
