BOLT LAUNCHES RIDE-HAILING THROUGH CHATGPT IN TANZANIA, BRINGING AI-POWERED TRAVEL PLANNING

DAR ES SALAAM, Tanzania, August 5, 2026 – Bolt has introduced ride-hailing through ChatGPT in Tanzania, allowing users to begin planning and requesting trips directly within ChatGPT before seamlessly completing their booking in the Bolt app. The launch is part of a global rollout across all markets where Bolt operates, marking a significant step in the evolution of AI-powered mobility.

The integration changes the traditional ride-hailing experience by enabling users to ask ChatGPT about their journey, receive an upfront fare estimate, compare route options, and identify the most convenient pickup location—all without first opening the Bolt app. The booking is then finalised within the Bolt application, with in-chat payment functionality expected to launch later this year.

The move reflects the growing role of artificial intelligence in everyday digital interactions. As ChatGPT becomes increasingly integrated into work, education, business planning, and personal decision-making, mobility services are now joining the same conversational environment, making travel planning faster and more intuitive.

According to Bolt East Africa Senior General Manager Dimmy Kanyankole, the integration aligns with changing user behaviour.

“This integration means mobility is becoming part of the same digital environment where people already plan, work, study, and make decisions. For many Tanzanian users, especially in cities, ChatGPT is already open on their devices during the day. Being able to request a Bolt ride from the same space reduces friction and makes travel planning smooth, faster and more natural.”

The launch comes amid growing global adoption of generative AI for travel planning. Accenture's Consumer Pulse Research 2025, which surveyed 18,000 consumers across 14 countries, found that approximately 80 percent of travellers now use generative AI tools for travel-related activities, highlighting the rapid transformation of customer behaviour.

For Tanzanian users, the new capability is expected to simplify daily travel by helping office workers plan commutes more efficiently, enabling students to make quicker transport decisions, assisting business travellers with route planning, and offering a smoother digital experience for riders already using AI tools.

Beyond improving convenience, the integration signals Bolt's broader vision for the future of urban mobility. The company sees ride-hailing as more than simply connecting passengers with drivers—it is increasingly about combining transportation, artificial intelligence, real-time data, and customer experience into a unified digital ecosystem.

By bringing its services into ChatGPT, Bolt is positioning itself at the intersection of mobility and AI, offering users a more natural and conversational way to plan journeys while laying the foundation for even more integrated travel experiences as additional features, including payments within ChatGPT, become available later this year.
