NMB DONATES FURNITURE WORTH 10M/- TO TWO SCHOOLS IN DAR ES SALAAM

NMB Bank has handed over 90 tables and 90 chairs worth over 10m/- to two secondary schools in Dar es Salaam region as part of the bank’s commitment to create a conducive environment for students and teachers.

The beneficiary schools include Uhamiaji Secondary School located in Temeke District that received 40 tables and 40 chairs for teachers as well as Mchikichini Secondary School in Ilala District that received 50 tables and chairs for students.

The donated furniture will address the problem of shortage of desks for teachers and students in Dar es Salaam region and aligns with the bank’s Corporate Social Investment (CSI) strategy that seeks to support communities where the bank operates.

Speaking during the handover ceremonies held in Dar es Salaam, the Acting NMB Bank Dar es Salaam Zonal Manager Ferdinand Mpona noted that the education sector is among the bank’s priorities in terms of CSI and reiterated the bank’s commitment to continue working closely with all the stakeholders including the Government in uplifting development of the education sector across the country.

"As a bank, we recognize that education is the key. That is why we have for years invested heavily in uplifting the growth of the education sector. As a matter of fact, the education sector is one of our key priority areas in our CSI strategy. We have been setting aside one percent of our Profit After Tax (PAT) each year to support various development initiatives," he said.

Mpona added, "We believe the furniture that we are donating today will go a long way in improving the schools' learning environment.

On his part the Temeke District Commissioner Sixtus Mapunda who officiated as guest of honor during the handover of the desks and tables to Uhamiaji Secondary School administration commended the bank for its generous gesture reaffirming the sixth phase Government’s commitment to support development of education sector.

“We understand that many schools in Temeke District still face many challenges and need more support from education stakeholders since we have a limited budget. Am grateful for NMB Bank for supporting this noble cause and I take this opportunity to call upon other corporate stakeholders to join our quest to support development of the education sector,” Mapunda said.

The Ilala District Commissioner Edward Mpogolo equally shared the same sentiments commending the bank for supporting Government’s education sector development drive.

“The sixth Phase Government has played a pivotal role in setting up supportive education sector infrastructure. We commend generous partners like NMB for supporting Government efforts,” he stressed.

Earlier, the Uhamiaji Secondary School Head Teacher Christopher Mtabutu noted that his school has been facing an acute shortage of teachers’ desks expressing optimism that the donated desks will help address the deficit to minimal levels.

“This donation has come timely as we have been facing a deficit of teachers’ desks. I believe the donated items will not only help in improving their working environment but safety of their belongings as well,” he added.

On his part the Mchikichini Secondary School Head Teacher Nelson Nestory was facing a shortage of 50 tables and 50 chairs as the Ilala district council had initially donated 100 schools to address the shortage.

“We are glad that NMB Bank has finally been able to close the deficit gap after donating 50 chairs and 50 tables today. We will strive to preserve these desks for use by future generations,” he said.
