Dar es Salaam, September 6th, 2016 - TIB Corporate Bank Limited has donated Sh 10 million to the Ocean Road Cancer Institute (ORCI) to enable the institution to cope with the demands of treating patients and rehabilitating cancer hospital.

The TIB Corporate Bank Limited Managing Director, Mr. Frank Nyabundege said ORCI will have the liberty to allocate the money in relation to its priorities.

“While we appreciate the efforts made by ORCI, we feel obliged to make a token donation to the institute, to reduce the overwhelming burden faced by the institute in terms of the increase in the numbers of patients and the meager infrastructures that cannot provide an adequate and conducive environment to patients,” said Mr. Nyabundege.

The donation is part of TIB’s contribution to various noble initiatives under the bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program.

Mr. Nyabundege said “we are proud to have a great cancer institute in our country, and they are doing a commendable job in increasing awareness and treatment. We know the effects of cancer in our socio-economic and development activities”.

“Cancer is now very prevalent in the world and Tanzania in specific. The disease is a major hindrance to development as it hampers the productivity of the work-force. It is very costly nursing a sick person in the family and the time required for other family members to take care of the ailing person”, said Mr. Nyabundege.

He appealed to individuals and other organizations to assist the ORCI in any capacity. ORCI is an independent autonomous institute that is directly under the Ministry of Health. The institution depends on government subventions to operate and due to numerous government priorities it cannot complete all of its activities and plans effectively.
