STANDARD CHARTERED TANZANIA MENTORS OVER 150 STUDENTS AT PUGU BOYS SECONDARY SCHOOL

Dar es Salaam, Tanzania – 23 May 2026: Standard Chartered Tanzania, through its Employee Volunteering (EV) programme, hosted a mentorship session at Pugu Boys Secondary School on 23 May 2026, engaging over 150 students in an interactive and insightful learning experience.

The session covered a range of key topics including financial literacy, discipline, character development, career guidance, and navigating negative influences. The initiative aimed to equip students with essential life skills, empowering them to make informed decisions and build a strong foundation for their future.

During the session, Standard Chartered Tanzania colleagues shared practical knowledge and personal experiences to inspire students to take ownership of their personal growth, financial well-being, and career aspirations. The engagement forms part of the Bank’s broader efforts to support youth development and community empowerment.

Speaking during the session, Mr. Herman Kasekende, Chief Executive Officer and Head, Banking & Coverage, emphasized the importance of mentorship and role modelling:

The boy child is particularly important to me, and mentoring you is something I am deeply passionate about. Each of us has a vital role to play in shaping the next generation of men—individuals who will make positive contributions to society. I hope you t ake away valuable insights from today’s discussion— whether it’s understanding how to manage your finances (it’s never too early to begin), developing the right skills to excel in your career, or prioritizing bothyour mental and physical well - being, among other life lessons.”

The mentorship session is part of Standard Chartered Tanzania’s ongoing Employee Volunteering initiatives, where colleagues dedicate their time to impactful community activities such as tree planting, beach clean-ups, career guidance, and financial literacy programmes.

Through these initiatives, the Bank continues to demonstrate its commitment to driving commerce and prosperity by investing in communities and empowering  the next generation.
