HASSAN MAAJAR TRUST CELEBRATES 5TH ANNIVERSARY

Launched in December 2011 in partnership with Bank M the Hassan Maajar Trust (HMT) over the weekend celebrated its 5th anniversary in a cocktail party held in Dar es salaam.

With its flagship program ‘A Desk for Every Child’ , the project has seen about 30,000 children getting a chance to have a decent desk. In partnership with the public and corporate Tanzania HMT has succeeded to provide over 8,100 desks lifting over 30,000 boys and girls from the floor onto desks in 13 regions of Tanzania.

Speaking during the cocktail, the HMT Chairperson, Ambassador Mwanaidi Maajar said the support extended by its corporate partners has continuously contributed to the success of the project, “thanks to all our sponsors, our goal is to ensure that no child has to sit on the floor,” said Ambassador Maajar” said Ambassador Maajar.

Bank M’s CEO Designate Jacqueline Woiso said that her bank is proud to be associated with the HMT in such a noble cause and commended the Hassan Maajar Trust for a job well done in 5 years of the project.

She added that “It is an open secret that the Hassan Maajar Trust has done a commendable job and recognizing their efforts in improving the learning environment in schools in Tanzania”.

HMT is dedicated towards improving the learning environment in schools by addressing and tackling the national school desk deficit across Tanzania. It is a non profit, non-partisan and non-religious organization that works with people in Tanzania and elsewhere to provide school desks and other furniture and learning equipment for schools in Tanzania. The Trust was establishes in memory of Hassan Shariff Maajar who died in a tragic road accident November 11, 2006.
