BOEING ON TRACK TO BEAT AIRBUS IN ORDERS, DELIVERIES FOR 2014

With one month left to go, Boeing is on track to beat European rival Airbus in orders and deliveries for 2014.

The U.S. aerospace giant had 1,380 total orders between Jan. 1 and Dec. 2, and 1,274 net orders when accounting for cancellations, according to Reuters. Boeing (NYSE:BA) delivered 647 aircraft in the first 11 months of the year.

Rival Airbus (OTCPK:EADSY) on Friday reported a total of 1,328 orders between January and November, but cancellations bring the net to 1,031 orders. Deliveries totaled 554 jets during that time period.

Boeing shares were up 0.9% on the stock market today.

The Chicago-based company forecasts 715 to 725 total deliveries of aircraft for 2014, while Airbus expects to deliver 626.

One of Boeing's biggest orders of the year was finalized on Monday — an $11 billion deal with Ryanair (NASDAQ:RYAAY) for 100 of the jet manufacturer's 737 MAX 200s.

Airbus recently closed a deal with JetBlue Airways (NASDAQ:JBLU) for the A321neo.

The Aerospace/Defense group is ranked No. 113 out of the 197 industry groups that IBD tracks.
