NATIONAL BANK OF COMMERCE APPOINTS PIUS TIBAZARWA AS INTERIM MANAGING DIRECTOR

NBC Tanzania announces the appointment of Pius Tibazarwa as Interim Managing Director of NBC Tanzania. Effective 1 October 2014, Pius will succeed Mizinga Melu, who has been appointed Chief Executive of Barclays Africa Regional Management. NBC Tanzania is a subsidiary of Johannesburg listed Barclays Africa Group Limited (BAGL).
Pius is currently the Treasurer for NBC Tanzania and has recently been on secondment to BAGL in Johannesburg.  Previously he was Head of Global Markets, Head of Trading and Head of Global Markets Sales for Standard Chartered Bank Tanzania.

In his banking career, Pius has pioneered the introduction of several new products into the Tanzanian market including FX Options, Structured Deposits and Interest Rate Derivatives.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Degree from the University of Dar es Salaam and is a member of the ACI Tanzania Association.

NBC Board Chairman Dr Mussa Assad said: “As Managing Director of NBC Tanzania, Mizinga has built a strong team which is truly transforming our business. She is leaving the business in a much stronger position from where the team will continue to build on under Pius’s leadership. I wish Pius and Mizinga both well in their new endeavours.”
Pius will report to Mizinga in her new role as Chief Executive of Barclays Africa Regional Management, as will the country Managing Directors of all BAGL’s businesses outside South Africa.
