Deputy CEO of the Presidential Delivery Bureau, Mr. Peniel Lyimo.
Dar es Salaam. The first audit report on ministries involved in the comprehensive implementation of Big Results Now (BRN) under the Presidential Delivery Bureau (PDB) will be out next month.
Currently a team of experts from PDB is auditing the reports from the just-concluded financial year. The BRN started in July last year and in accordance with the fiscal year, it ended on June 30, this year.
Speaking to The Citizen yesterday, PDB spokesman Hassan Abbas said experts in the sectors that implement the model of development were doing a physical checks to be followed by an independent auditor.
“We have a team of experts here at PDB who evaluate the documents and implement at various projects based on key performance indicators set to each implementing ministry,” Mr Abbas said
Big Results Now is part of the Tanzania government’s effort to transition the country from a low to middle-income economy. Tanzania is set to adopt the Malaysian Model of Development.  A comprehensive system of implementation would focus on six priority areas of the economy, which are energy and natural gas, Agriculture, Water, Education, Transport and mobilisation of resources.
The Big Results Now (BRN) initiative aims to adopt new methods of working under a specified timeframe for delivery of the step-change required.
In February, Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete unveiled the Big Results Initiative which models the Malaysian development strategy and has been adopted by Rwanda and Nigeria as well.
However, the deputy chief executive officer of the Presidential Delivery Bureau Mr Peniel Lyimo, said the BRN programme therefore aims at catalysing the planning, delivery, monitoring and evaluation of progress of the implementation of Tanzania’s development projects as prioritized under the Five Year Development Plan (FYDP).
He noted the achievement within a year since its inception as in agriculture sector, preparations for irrigation schemes and big commercial farms are well advanced, two title deeds for two commercial farms (Bagamoyo and Mkulazi) issued, all 275 warehouses were assessed and profiled to serve as storage and marketing centres and innovation of 30 of them has started; and all 78 small holder irrigation schemes surveyed and two service providers have been procured.
In education, Mr Lyimo said more than 75 percent of teachers’ claims have been cleared and the first ever Education Week conducted in April, 2014 to incentivise both teachers and students to continuously work towards year-on-year improvements.
“About 3,000 secondary school head teachers out of 3,510 have been trained on better management of their schools to build an environment conducive for learning from the perspective of both students and teachers,” he noted.
