Moshi — MEMBERS of 16 banks in Kilimanjaro region entertained in a thrilling bonanza held at Ushirika Grounds in Moshi on Sunday, participating in different sports.
With family members watching delightedly as parents or partners competed to emerge victorious, the bankers showed unreserved skills in soccer, sprint, chicken chasing, basketball, sprinting in sacks, logs pushing and pulling rope.
In football, Akiba Commercial Bank (ACB) lost 2-0 to a Banks Combined team. The goals for the winners were scored by Godwin Elisante in the seventh minute while the second was slotted in by Winston Kiwenge three minutes after an hour mark.
The event that had multiple sponsors, with food and drinks of all kinds for the whole day, saw runner Lucy Materu from ACB beating others in 100 metres race, Barclay's Ritha Kinunda won in 400m while in the men's race ACB's Deo Mkama shone.
National Microfinance Bank (NMB) women staff proved too good to others in log pushing, running in sacks, and chasing chicken, while men from Diamond Trust Bank (DTB) won the prize for log pushing as Barclays men were good in chasing chicken.
The financial masters proved too strong as they had the rope cut in pieces twice when pulling hence some had to withdraw from the contest to save the rope.
Speaking on behalf of his fellow managers, Tanzania Postal Bank (TPB) Kilimanjaro Regional Manager George Simbili said the bonanza, held for a fourth year in a row, aims to strengthen good relations amongst the banking sector staff.
Simbili said it also helps families to enjoy together as the staff exchange expertise, bolster cooperation and widen the business in the sector. The event brought together staff and families from different districts of the region.
