DAR ES SALAAM, Tanzania; August 14, 2026 — Ecobank Group Chief Executive Officer Jeremy Awori has called for stronger mobilisation of African capital, better project preparation and smarter use of existing infrastructure assets to accelerate infrastructure development across the continent.
Speaking at the Africa50 Infra for Africa Forum 2026 in Dar es Salaam, Awori said Africa’s infrastructure challenge is not solely about raising new capital, but also about making more effective use of the financial resources, institutions and assets already available across the continent.
UNLOCKING AFRICAN CAPITAL
Awori highlighted the significant pools of domestic capital available in African markets, including pension funds, and stressed the need for stronger leadership, coordination and innovative financing approaches to channel more of these resources towards infrastructure development.
“Africa has significant pools of capital that can support its infrastructure ambitions. The challenge is to create the right structures and investment opportunities to effectively mobilise this capital,” Awori said.
He also underscored the importance of developing and packaging infrastructure projects in ways that can attract institutional investors and build greater confidence in African markets.
According to Awori, demonstrating the performance of successful infrastructure projects through credible data will be critical to changing perceptions of infrastructure investment in Africa. Evidence of sustainable returns from completed and operational projects, he said, can help attract more institutional capital and encourage greater investment across the continent.
FROM AMBITION TO DELIVERY
The Ecobank GCEO further called for stronger collaboration among governments, financial institutions, investors and other stakeholders to move infrastructure discussions from ambition to actual project delivery.
He said Africa needs to develop scalable and investable infrastructure pipelines across its markets, supported by appropriate financing structures and effective partnerships between the public and private sectors.
As a leading pan-African banking group, Ecobank continues to support economic development and facilitate investment across African markets. Its extensive regional footprint positions the bank to connect capital, businesses and investment opportunities across the continent and support the financing of projects that contribute to sustainable economic growth.
