Veteran Tanzanian Executive Takes Helm at Expanding Regional Trading and Logistics Company
Six Continental Group has appointed seasoned Tanzanian business leader CPA Benson Mahenya as its new Group Chief Executive Officer, ushering in a new phase of strategic leadership for the rapidly growing transport, logistics, and trading company.
Mahenya joins Six Continental Group after building a distinguished career spanning more than 30 years across banking, finance, manufacturing, consulting, governance, and corporate leadership. Widely respected within Tanzania’s business community for his transformational leadership and strategic financial expertise, he has held senior executive and board positions in some of the country’s leading institutions.
His appointment comes as Six Continental Group accelerates its expansion across East, Central and Southern Africa, positioning itself as a major player in commercial transport equipment, logistics solutions, and regional trade support services.
Leading a Fast-Growing Pan-African Business
Founded in 2021, Six Continental Trading Company Limited specializes in the supply of heavy-duty trucks, trailers, and transport solutions serving logistics, construction, mining, agriculture, manufacturing, energy, and government sectors.
The company has rapidly expanded its footprint across nine African markets including Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Zambia, Malawi, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Mauritius.
According to the company’s latest corporate profile, Six Continental has already imported more than 16,000 units since commencing operations, achieving a 98 percent sales conversion rate while targeting imports of 6,000 units per year starting this year.
Its core business areas include commercial truck sales, trailer solutions, transport equipment supply, spare parts and tyres distribution, technical support, maintenance advisory, and fleet consultation services.
The company’s long-term vision is to become one of Africa’s leading providers of commercial transport and mobility solutions through regional expansion, institutional partnerships, customer-focused service, and strategic banking relationships.
A Career Built Across Banking, Finance and Corporate Transformation
Mahenya brings to the role extensive expertise in finance, auditing, governance, change management, and corporate transformation.
A Tanzanian Certified Public Accountant (CPA), he holds a Master of Science degree in Finance from the University of Strathclyde in Scotland, an MBA in Marketing, and a First Class Bachelor of Commerce degree in Finance from the University of Dar es Salaam.
Over the years, he has established a reputation as a strategic executive with strong experience in organizational restructuring, financial systems strengthening, operational modernization, and growth management.
Before joining Six Continental Group, Mahenya served as Group CEO of GSM Group of Companies from October 2023 to December 2025, leading more than 3,000 employees across multiple industries including manufacturing, logistics, trading, and retail operations.
Prior to becoming Group CEO, he held several senior leadership positions within GSM Group, including CEO for Manufacturing and Trading Division, Deputy CEO, and Group Chief Financial Officer. He was among the founding Executive Committee members in 2014 and played a key role in building and streamlining the conglomerate’s corporate structures, financial systems, internal controls, tax management frameworks, and strategic investment processes.
His corporate leadership experience also includes senior roles at National Microfinance Bank (NMB), Standard Chartered Bank Tanzania, and African Banking Corporation Tanzania (BancABC).
At NMB Bank, Mahenya served in a senior finance leadership role and was a key member of the team involved in the bank’s transformation programme and Initial Public Offering (IPO), helping guide one of Tanzania’s most significant banking sector milestones.
Earlier in his career, Mahenya worked with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) in the Assurance and Business Advisory Services division, where he handled auditing and advisory assignments for major corporations and development organizations including Tanzania Breweries, Coca-Cola, Tanga Cement, DANIDA-funded projects, and GTZ programmes.
Strong Consulting and Development Finance Background
Beyond the corporate sector, Mahenya has played a significant role in consulting, development finance, and institutional transformation initiatives.
He is the founding partner of BM Associates, a certified public accounting and consulting firm that has participated in audits, restructuring assignments, and IPO processes involving both public and private sector institutions.
Over the years, he has advised organizations including the Bank of Tanzania, Tanzania Investment Bank (TIB), Unit Trust of Tanzania (UTT), Financial Sector Deepening Trust (FSDT), SELF Project, NICOL, PASS Trust, World Bank-supported programmes, and several pension and microfinance institutions.
His consultancy experience has covered areas such as financial sector restructuring, governance systems, strategic planning, IPO advisory, infrastructure financing, microfinance transformation, financial modelling, and institutional capacity building.
Mahenya also previously served as Chief Financial Officer of T-MARC, a USAID-funded public health programme, where he was instrumental in setting up internal control systems and overseeing the transition of the project into a fully-fledged company.
Recognized Governance and Board Leadership Experience
In addition to executive management, Mahenya has built a strong profile in corporate governance and board leadership.
He currently serves on the Board of Directors of NMB Bank Plc, where he chairs the Board Audit, Risk and Compliance Committee following his reappointment for a second three-year term in 2025.
He also serves as Chairman of TGT Microfinance Limited, Trustee Board Member of the Tanzania Association of Accountants (TAA), and is a Member of the Institute of Directors in Tanzania (IoDT), reflecting his longstanding commitment to promoting sound corporate governance and leadership excellence.
Mahenya is also an Adjunct Lecturer in the Finance Department at the University of Dar es Salaam Business School (UDBS), where he contributes to bridging the gap between academia and industry through knowledge sharing, mentorship, and professional development.
Over the years, he has chaired and served on boards of several institutions including TIB Corporate Bank as Board Chairman, PASS Trust, Tanzania Growth Trust, and VisionFund Tanzania.
His governance expertise, combined with his deep understanding of banking, trade, logistics, and institutional development, is expected to support Six Continental Group as it strengthens regional partnerships and scales its operations.
