DELOITTE EAST AFRICA APPOINTS FIRST FEMALE CEO

  • Muraya takes over from Joe Eshun, who has been appointed as Deloitte Africa Managing director.
  • Muraya will be the first woman chief executive at the firm, where she will oversee operations in offices in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, Ethiopia, South Sudan, Rwanda, Burundi, and Somalia.
Audit and consulting firm Deloitte East Africa has appointed Anne Muraya as its new chief executive effective June 1, 2022, as it continues to focus on driving East Africa’s regional growth potential.

She would become the first woman to hold the CEO position when she takes over from Joe Eshun, who has been promoted to Deloitte Africa Managing Director for Businesses based in Johannesburg, South Africa.

According to a statement quoted by the outgoing Deloitte Africa CEO, Lwazi Bam, Muraya’s extensive history of leadership and her experience in advising multinational clients looking to establish themselves in the East Africa market made her an ideal person for the role.

“These appointments are not only a continuation of our transformation journey but a reflection of the firm’s commitment to living our shared values, particularly “leading the way” and “fostering inclusion, said the outgoing Deloitte Africa CEO Lwazi Bam.

“We have spent the last four years setting the foundation for the growth of our business by focusing on client service excellence, shaping the right culture aligned by our Deloitte Shared Values, and ensuring operational efficiency. I am excited to hand over the torch to Ann Muraya, and we are confident that she will be a force in driving Deloitte forward in an exciting but also challenging post-pandemic environment.” said the outgoing Deloitte East Africa CEO, Joe Eshun.
