NOOSE TIGHTENED ON EFD DEFAULTERS

TANZANIA Revenue Authority (TRA) has instructed traders using Electronic Fiscal Devices (EFDs) to move with them and issue electronic receipts during trade exhibitions.

The directive comes as various businessmen complained some TRA officials were demanding exhibitors to show EFD machines during the Mwanza East African Trade Fair (MEATF) held here last month.

Speaking to the ‘Daily News’ yesterday, the Mwanza TRA regional Manager, Ernest Dundee said since the eligible businessmen were already registered in the EFD system, there was no way they can trade without using the machines wherever they conduct their business.

“We have designed a special system which identifies all the businessmen registered to trade and issue electronic receipts using EFDs. Therefore all the traders are advised to issue the receipts at any selling point even if it is far away from their shops,” said Mr Dundee.

He cautioned the traders to observe and abide to the directive to avoid unnecessary inconveniences since TRA would not entertain negligence in revenue collection.

According to Mr Dundee while all registered businessmen required to issue EFD receipts without fail, the rest of the petty traders with sales below 14m/- per year are obliged to make sure they move with receipt books during trade exhibitions as well and issue manual receipts accordingly.
