MIXX AND DAR ES SALAAM STOCK EXCHANGE DRIVE TANZANIA’S NEW GENERATION OF DIGITAL INVESTORS

Mixx Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Angelica Pesha (centre), speaks during a fireside chat at the Mixx and Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSE) partnership event held in Dar es Salaam recently under the theme, “The Role of Digital Payments in Powering the Next Generation of Investors.” She is flanked by DSE Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Peter Nalitolela (left), and Chief Executive Officer of Orbit Securities, Mr. Godfrey Malauri (right).

Digital Investment Transactions Surge to TZS 6.9 Billion

DAR ES SALAAM – Tanzania is experiencing a rapid rise in digital investing among young people, following strong growth in the partnership between Mixx by Yas and the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSE).

Digital investment transactions conducted through the partnership increased from TZS 840 million to TZS 6.9 billion within a year, signaling growing public interest in mobile-based investment solutions.

The growth was highlighted during the Mixx and DSE partnership event held in Dar es Salaam under the theme “The Role of Digital Payments in Powering the Next Generation of Investors.”

Mixx Expands Beyond Mobile Money

Speaking during the event, the Chief Executive Officer of Mixx by Yas, Angelica Pesha, said the company is broadening its focus beyond traditional mobile money services by creating opportunities for Tanzanians to invest and build wealth digitally.

We have always believed that financial inclusion is not complete without investment inclusion,” said Pesha. “It is not enough for people to send and receive money; we must empower them to grow their wealth, own assets and actively participate in our capital markets.”

She explained that the integration of DSE’s Hisa Kiganjani platform into the Mixx Super App has simplified investing by enabling users to buy shares directly through their mobile phones without complicated onboarding procedures.

According to Pesha, investor numbers on the platform increased from 6,800 to 32,000 within one year, while transactions rose from 8,600 to more than 41,500.

This growth shows that when access is simplified and designed around the user experience, participation increases dramatically,” she added.

Pesha also noted that services such as Kibubu, Bustisha and digital investment products reflect Mixx’s ambition to become a broader financial empowerment platform for Tanzanians.

Young Investors Leading the Shift

Pesha said the growing participation of Gen Z investors demonstrates how technology is changing investment culture in Tanzania.

You no longer need large amounts of money to start investing. Through digital platforms, investment opportunities are now accessible to everyone,” she said.

Industry stakeholders say the increasing involvement of young Tanzanians reflects ongoing success in democratizing access to financial and capital market services across the country.

DSE Sees Mobile Phones Transforming Investing

The Chief Executive Officer of the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange, Peter Nalitolela, said digital innovation is transforming how Tanzanians participate in financial markets.

What if the future of investing in Tanzania is not built in trading floors, but in mobile phones?” Nalitolela said. “Across the country, people who were once excluded from capital markets are now participating because access has become digital.”

He added that the partnership between DSE and Mixx has helped remove barriers by allowing investors to fund investment accounts instantly through mobile money services, making transactions faster and more convenient.

CMSA Encourages More Tanzanians to Invest

Meanwhile, the Director of Research and Policy at the Capital Markets and Securities Authority (CMSA), Alfred Mkombo, encouraged Tanzanians to take advantage of opportunities available in capital markets through shares and bonds.

Many Tanzanians still believe you need huge capital to invest, but capital markets provide accessible opportunities for both investment and business financing,” said Mkombo.

He emphasized that digital platforms are helping make investment opportunities accessible to ordinary citizens and small business owners.

Driving Financial Inclusion Through Technology

Stakeholders at the event said the growing use of digital investment platforms could significantly expand Tanzania’s investor base while promoting a stronger culture of savings, investment and wealth creation among young people.

The partnership between Mixx and DSE is expected to further accelerate retail investor participation as Tanzania continues pushing for a more inclusive digital economy and broader financial empowerment.
