Dar es Salaam, Tanzania — Absa Bank Tanzania has been recognized for its excellence in financial reporting after securing second place in the Medium-Sized Banks category at the 2024 Best Presented Financial Statements Awards, organized by the National Board of Accountants and Auditors (NBAA).

The prestigious accolade highlights the bank’s commitment to transparency, strong governance, and adherence to top-tier reporting standards—key pillars that continue to strengthen stakeholder trust and reinforce the bank's leadership in the financial sector.

During the award ceremony held recently in Dar es Salaam, the Deputy Minister of Finance and Planning, Mr. Laurent Luswetila, presented the award to Mr. Stivin Augustino, Head of Business Performance and Analytics, and Mr. Muhsin Kaye, Financial Controller at Absa Bank Tanzania. The moment underscored the institution’s dedication to producing high-quality financial statements that reflect accuracy, accountability, and clarity in line with NBAA guidelines.

Also present during the presentation was NBAA Executive Director, CPA Pius Maneno, who commended all participating institutions for upholding high reporting standards that support financial sector stability and transparency.

I&M BANK, HANSPAUL LAUNCH STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP TO BOOST VEHICLE ASSET FINANCING

I&M Bank Tanzania has entered into a strategic partnership with Hanspaul, a move set to expand and strengthen vehicle asset financing solutions for customers across the country. The agreement, signed last week in Arusha, underscores the two institutions’ shared commitment to making asset ownership more accessible, affordable, and sustainable.

Under this partnership, customers will benefit from financing of up to 90%, longer repayment periods, and competitive insurance options, easing the process of acquiring essential assets for both personal and business needs.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, Yusuf Mdoe, Head of SME and Distribution at I&M Bank Tanzania, emphasized the bank’s dedication to providing a seamless, end-to-end asset ownership experience. He noted that the partnership aligns with the bank’s broader mission of supporting business growth and empowering customers with flexible financial solutions.

On his part, Erick Akyoo, Arusha Branch Manager, highlighted the significance of the collaboration to the tourism sector—one of the region’s major economic pillars. He affirmed that improved access to asset financing will help businesses in the sector expand, modernize, and better serve both local and international clients.

AIRTEL TANZANIA, UCSAF SIGN PHASE 10 AGREEMENT TO BOOST RURAL CONNECTIVITY NATIONWIDE

Airtel Tanzania has reinforced its commitment to expanding digital connectivity across the country by signing Phase 10 of its ongoing partnership with the Universal Communication Service Access Fund (UCSAF). The agreement focuses on the construction of new communication towers aimed at improving network access in underserved rural communities.

The signing ceremony was graced by the Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Hon. Angellah Jasmine Mbelwa Kairuki (Mb), who applauded both UCSAF and mobile service providers for their continued dedication to strengthening the national communications landscape.

Government Commends Progress in Rural Connectivity

Addressing stakeholders, Hon. Kairuki emphasized the critical role of communication infrastructure in socio-economic development:

“I commend the Board and Management of UCSAF for the excellent work being done to ensure communication services are available with quality and at an affordable cost. I also commend all service providers for the strong cooperation you continue to offer the Government to ensure communication services remain high-quality, impactful, accessible, and affordable for the benefit of Tanzanians.”

Her remarks were echoed by the Permanent Secretary, Mr. Mohamed Hamis Abdullah, who highlighted the scale and strategic importance of the initiative:

“Today, the Government will witness the signing of agreements for the construction of Phase 10 communication towers across 201 wards nationwide… This project is important and strategic, and I take this opportunity to congratulate all service providers involved.”

Airtel to Construct 65% of All New Towers Under Phase 10

Under the newly signed phase, Airtel Tanzania will build 132 out of the 201 communication towers slated for deployment—representing 65% of all required sites. This makes Airtel the largest contributor in this nationwide connectivity program.

Airtel Tanzania’s Managing Director, Mr. Charles Kamoto, reaffirmed the company’s mission to support inclusive digital growth:

“Our ongoing partnership with UCSAF demonstrates our strong commitment to digital transformation and ensuring that connectivity is accessible across the entire country. Under this Phase 10 project, Airtel will build 65% of all the towers required… reflecting our dedication to supporting inclusive growth, expanding coverage, and enabling more communities to benefit from modern communication services.”

Benki ya Equity Tanzania imeendelea kuonyesha dhamira yake ya kukuza ujasiriamali nchini kwa kuwawezesha wahitimu wa Anna Collection Fashion Academy (AFA) kupitia elimu ya fedha, mitaji, mafunzo ya usimamizi wa biashara na fursa za maonesho ya ubunifu (exposure). “Wahitimu wanapaswa kuwa na nidhamu, bidii, kuheshimu muda wa wateja na kubadilisha ubunifu wao kuwa biashara halisi zinazowawezesha kiuchumi,” alisema Maganga, akibainisha kuwa kupitia kitengo cha Huduma kwa Wanawake na Vijana, benki hiyo inatoa mafunzo na mikopo nafuu kwa wanafunzi wanaotaka kuanzisha na kuendeleza biashara.

 

Maganga aliongeza kuwa sekta ya ushonaji na ubunifu wa mavazi inastahili kupewa heshima na uangalizi kwa kuwa ni chanzo kikubwa cha ajira na kipato kwa vijana wengi. Aliitaja sekta hiyo kuwa injini muhimu ya uchumi, inayowawezesha vijana kuchangia kikamilifu katika maendeleo ya taifa.

Kwa upande wake, Mkurugenzi Mkuu wa Anna Collection Fashion Academy, Anna Peter, aliwataka wahitimu kuthamini ubunifu wao na kuutumia kama ajira yenye thamani, inayohitaji nidhamu, ubora, uwezo wa kutatua matatizo ya wateja na utoaji wa bidhaa kwa bei inayoendana na thamani halisi.

Vodacom Tanzania Plc has reaffirmed its commitment to inclusivity and equal access to education after donating vital assistive equipment to support students with special needs in Zanzibar.

The handover ceremony, held earlier this week in Zanzibar, brought together key government officials and stakeholders in the education sector. Officiating the event was the Zanzibar Minister of Education and Vocational Training, Hon. Lela Mohamed Mussa, who received the donation on behalf of the ministry. Benki ya NMB imetimiza nusu ya ahadi yake ya TZS bilioni 1 iliyotolewa mwaka jana kwa ajili ya kuiwezesha Taasisi ya Moyo ya Jakaya Kikwete (JKCI) kutoa matibabu ya moyo kwa watoto wanaohitaji upasuaji maalum. Hatua hiyo imesaidia kubadilisha maisha ya watoto 125 kutoka familia zisizojiweza katika mikoa mbalimbali nchini.

Ahadi hiyo, iliyotolewa tarehe 2 Novemba 2024, inahusisha kugharamia matibabu ya watoto 250 ndani ya kipindi cha miaka minne—ikiwa ni sehemu ya dhamira ya NMB kuunga mkono afya ya jamii, hususan watoto wanaozaliwa na matatizo ya moyo.

It also highlighted the remarkable impact of the lender’s TZS 1 billion heartcare pledge, announced in November last year, aimed at widening access to specialized treatment for children battling congenital and other cardiovascular diseases.

A Lifeline for 250 Children

Launched on November 2, 2024, the four-year initiative seeks to fund treatment for at least 250 children from low-income households. In her remarks after the visit, Ms. Zaipuna confirmed that NMB has already disbursed TZS 500 million—half of its total pledge—enabling 125 successful surgeries so far.

“We sincerely thank JKCI for their exceptional work in performing these life-saving surgeries, and we remain committed to collaborating with all partners to make this mission a continued success,” she said. “We are proud that through our support, more children from less privileged families are given a chance to grow up healthy and strong.”

 

She further revealed that an additional TZS 250 million will be released in January 2026 to ensure continuity of treatment for children already in the medical pipeline.

Partnership Beyond Funding

Ms. Zaipuna emphasized that NMB’s support goes far beyond financial contributions. The bank is strengthening collaborations with JKCI, Heart Team Africa Foundation, and Global Medicare to expand nationwide outreach, accelerate the pace of surgeries, and boost long-term cardiac care infrastructure.
