Dar es Salaam: August 26, 2026 - Tanzania has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening economic and development cooperation with the Government of the Union of the Comoros to promote shared prosperity and improve the welfare of citizens in both countries.
The commitment was made by the Minister for Finance, Hon. Ambassador Khamis Mussa Omar (MP), during talks with the Comoros Minister for Finance, Budget and Banking Sector, Hon. Moussa Abderemane, held at the Ministry of Finance’s offices in Dar es Salaam.
Ambassador Omar said economic cooperation should remain at the heart of efforts to deepen relations between Tanzania and Comoros, noting that the two countries have significant opportunities for collaboration in trade and investment, financial and banking services, public financial management, infrastructure development, energy, tourism and agriculture.
He emphasised the importance of creating a conducive environment to facilitate the movement of goods, services, capital and businesspeople between the two countries.
According to Ambassador Omar, easing cross-border movement would help expand trade and investment while creating more employment opportunities for citizens of both nations.
The Minister also described the meeting as an important platform for exchanging experiences and best practices in economic management, public financial management and domestic revenue mobilisation.
He said the two countries could learn from each other’s experiences in building resilient and inclusive economies that deliver broader benefits to their populations.
COMOROS SEEKS TANZANIA’S EXPERIENCE IN DIGITAL REVENUE COLLECTION
For his part, Comoros Minister for Finance, Budget and Banking Sector, Hon. Moussa Abderemane, thanked Tanzania for being an important development partner to Comoros across various economic, social and cultural areas.
He said the main purpose of his visit to Tanzania, accompanied by his delegation, was to learn from Tanzania’s progress in using Information and Communication Technology (ICT) systems for government revenue collection and management.
Abderemane said the experience and lessons gained during the visit would be used to improve Comoros’ government revenue collection systems through the adoption of ICT and modern tax systems.
He expressed confidence that strengthening digital revenue collection and tax administration would contribute to improving domestic resource mobilisation and further stimulate economic growth in Comoros.
DELEGATION ATTENDS ECONOMIC TALKS
The meeting was also attended by the Ambassador of Comoros to Tanzania, H.E. Ahamada Elbadaoul Mohamed Fakih; SoftNet Technologies Regional Marketing Director, Mr. Maharage Chande; and other senior officials from Tanzania and Comoros.
The discussions underscore the growing potential for Tanzania and Comoros to deepen economic ties through stronger trade, investment, financial cooperation and the exchange of knowledge and technology.
