The iconic Rotary Dar Marathon takes place on the 14th of October (Nyerere Day) every year since 2008 and this year we will celebrate its 10th anniversary.

This year Rotary Dar Marathon theme continues to be “Healing Lives, Transforming Communities” and it is in its third year of raising funds to support the Comprehensive Community-Based Rehabilitation (CCBRT) social enterprise project, which aims to expand revenues by constructing a larger and specialised clinic which in turn will enable highly subsidised care in the CCBRT Disability Hospital. All funds raised through the RDM activities will be used to complete the construction of this specialised clinic and support provision of equipment and outfitting of the facility.
Speaking to the press in Dar es Salaam on the preparations, the Rotary Dar Marathon Chair for 2018, Rotarian Catherinerose Barreto, said that the committee that is comprised of members of the eight Rotary Clubs of Dar es Salaam is well prepared and expecting to yet again provide an unforgettable sporting event. She further added that the marathon will be graced by their patron His Excellency the former President Al-Haj, Ali Hassan Mwinyi.

The Rotary Dar Marathon (RDM) event besides focusing on the primary goal of raising funds to support various causes to improve the quality of life in our communities is also keen at ensuring it provides the best experience for participants during the event. Each year RDM takes steps to ensure the event is executed at the highest standard so that all participants whether professional athletes or amateurs enjoy the experience and can use it as a standard for their athletic accomplishments.

The RDM Route Master, Rotarian Diamond Carvalho, commented that the event expects to attract 16,000 participants, with some participants coming from neighbouring countries and overseas. The RDM routes will include the usual family fun 5km and 9km walk and the more demanding 21.1km and 42.2km running and cycling routes. All races will start and end at the Green grounds in Oysterbay.

We believe that working together we can create a huge positive impact on the community as a whole. We would like to thank Bank M for their unwavering support for the event over the past 9 years and SBC - Pepsi for their continued sponsorship of RDM Tshirts, soft-drinks and enhanced support for the 2018 RDM.
