MITSUBISHI MOTORS TO RECALL 51,596 OUTLANDER VEHICLES IN CHINA

BEIJING, Jan. 28 (Xinhua) -- Mitsubishi Motors will recall 51,596 vehicles in China due to a potential safety hazard in the rear parking brake, according to China's top quality regulator.

Mitsubishi Motors Sales (China) Co. Ltd. filed the recall with the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine.

The recall is for imported Outlander vehicles manufactured between Nov. 15, 2012 and Jan. 28, 2016, the administration said in a statement.

Water can get into the brake caliper, causing a shaft to corrode. If that happens, the parking brake may fail to fully engage, causing the vehicle to slide when parked, the statement said.

The recall will start on April 27.

Dealers will check the rear brakes. If shafts are corroded, they will replace the calipers. If not, they will replace the boot that keeps water out.
