Tanzania, hospitals and clinics suffer from a shortage of medicine, medical
supplies and beds, particularly public referral hospitals. In an attempt to
address these shortages plaguing the nation, Exim Bank Tanzania has embarked on a countrywide initiative of donating 500 beds and mattresses to public hospitals
in 13 regions across the country as part of a year-long corporate social campaign
aimed at celebrating 20 years of serving the Tanzanian community.
Today,
Exim Bank Tanzania, has donated 40 beds and mattresses to Mount Meru Regional Hospital.
The Corporate
Social campaign dubbed “20 years of
taking care of the community” which was launched in August during the banks
20th anniversary has invested heavily into the Tanzanian health
care.
As a Tanzanian
bank established in 1997, Exim Bank defines success by how we make a difference
to its clients and communities at large.
Mount
Meru Regional Hospital is the fifth hospital to receive this donation, after Dodoma
Referral Hospital in Dodoma last month, Ligula Hospital in Mtwara in October, Mnazi
Mmoja Hospital in Zanzibar in September and Temeke Referral Hospital in Dar es
Salaam in August this year. The event was held at the hospital grounds and was honored
by the presence of the Regional Medical Officer, Dr Vivian Wonanji.
Regional
Medical Officer, Dr Vivian Wonanji commended Exim Bank Tanzania for its
commitment in addressing the bed capacity problem plaguing the nation and for
bringing its efforts to the Mount Meru Regional hospital. Mount Meru Regional Hospital
Medical Officer said, “Shortages of beds is one of the biggest challenges faced
by hospitals. The donation of 40 beds and mattresses from Exim Bank will go a
long way in addressing this issue”.
As part
of the yearlong donation project “20 years of caring for the community”, Exim
Bank will donate 500 beds and mattresses to hospitals in Mbeya, Mwanza,
Morogoro, Tanga, Kigoma, Kiliamanjaro, Shinyanga, Dodoma, Mtwara, Arusha, Pemba
and Ugunja out of which Dar es Salaam, Unguja, Mtwara and Dodoma have already
received the donations.
The bank,
which was recognized as Tanzania’s Best Retail Bank by Banker Africa East
Africa 2017, is celebrating 20 years of success, growth and pioneering into new
markets across the continent. Exim Bank (Tanzania) Limited was established in
1997 and expanded its market by opening subsidiaries in Comoros (2007),
Djibouti (2010) and Uganda (2016). The bank holds pride in being the first
