FORMER PRESIDENT ALI HASSAN MWINYI LEADS ROTARY DAR MARATHON

Former Tanzanian President, Hon. Ali Hassan Mwinyi waves a flag to start the Rotary Dar Marathon 2016 which took place over the weekend during Nyerere day at the Green grounds Oysterbay. The marathon was organised by Rotary clubs in partnership with Bank M with the aim of collecting funds to construct a teaching hospital in Dar es Salaam. On his left is the Bank M CEO Designate Ms. Jacqueline Woiso and on his right is the Rotary District governor Jayesh Usher.

The former president of Tanzania hon. Ali Hassan Mwinyi led a number of Dsm citizens in the Rotary Dar Marathon 2016 held in Dar es Salaam during Nyerere Day which attracted over 14,000 participants including world reknown athletes who participated in the recent Olympic games in London. The marathon started and ended at the Green grounds, Oysterbay.

The event, themed ‘Healing lives, transforming communities” was organized by the seven Rotary Clubs in Dar es Salaam in association with Bank M, and was aimed at collecting funds for construction of a teaching hospital in Dar es salaam.

Speaking after the event, the Marathon Committee Ms. Agnes Batengas said that the event has been successful. The total collection for this RDM is TZS 580mio and the total contribution in kind is TZS 410mio.

Speaking during the event, retired president of Tanzania His Excellency Ali Hassan Mwinyi – who was the chief guest, said that the efforts shown by the Rotary movement and its partners in serving the community deserves recognition. He said that the Marathon has contributed significantly to the welfare of our community and he feels very honored to participate in the walk every year, the former president is also a patron of Rotary Dar Marathon.

Bank M’s CEO-Designate Ms. Jacqueline Woiso said that the bank is proud to be partnering with Rotary in supporting and saving lives of Tanzanians. “We have come across a long journey and we have managed to improve the well-being of our people in Education, Health Sanitation and environmental conservation. We strongly believe that our objective to establish the teaching hospital will be reality over the next 5 years as we walk every year”.
