FIRM LAUNCHES NEW HEALTH INSURANCE COVER

Jubilee Insurance company has launched a special health insurance product that enables the outpatients to get treatment without annual cost limit.

Dubbed "Jilinde Afya" has become the first product in the country to give unlimited cover to outpatients, with the company looking forward to introducing the same in other East African countries: Kenya, Uganda and Burundi.

"We have started in Tanzania as a pilot project, then we are going to introduce the same in other countries", said the Chief Executive Officer of the company Mr. George Alande.

During the the launching event in Dar es salaam on thursday evening, Mr. Alande said the health services under the new cover would be available only at the Aghakhan hospitals and later on would be also available to other hospitals.

"We have come with this product for the middle class clients who have been always complaining that they are usually dug deep into their pockets after they had spent beyond the limited costs for the outpatient services," said Mr. Alande.

For other health covers, normally the outpatients are limited to spend no more than 1m/- annually.

Regional Chief Eexecutive officer for Agha Khan hospitals, Mr Sulaiman Shahabuddin, said many times they have been handling cases whereby the insured outpatients spent more than the amount covered. "Sometimes these patients do not have money to top up, so I think having this product would help the outpatients", he said.

He mentioned cardiac accidents, and paediatric for children as some of the diseases that outpatients were mostly spending beyond the limited cost to be covered.

He said since the Agha Khan is one of the major health facilities, many people would want to go for treatment, but couldn't afford costs, but with the product one would be able to access services offered by the hospital.
