Whoops... |
In a statement from its Twitter account, Bloomberg said that at this point, there is no sign that the outage was caused by "anything other than an internal network issue."
However, a source that works in the markets told Business Insider that the current rumour circulating around Bloomberg's London newsroom and television studio is that it was caused by "someone spilling a can of coke on a server somewhere."
The source, who visited the Bloomberg offices today, said staff were talking about the alleged spillage causing the outage of Bloomberg terminals.
Bloomberg's Europe/Middle East/Africa spokesperson Catrin Thomas said "I cannot respond to that."
Earlier, there was speculation that the outage might have been caused by a cyberattack, according to Reuters.
In a statement, Bloomberg said that it "had restored service to most customers and are making progress in bringing all parts of the network back online. We apologize to our customers."
