Tanzania's Minister of Finance, Hon. Khamis Mussa Omar (MP), bids farewell to NMB Bank Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Ruth Zaipuna, after a meeting on enhancing collaboration, held at the Ministry of Finance's Sub-Office in Dar es Salaam.

Government Commends NMB's Role in Revenue Collection, Financial Inclusion and Digital Innovation

DAR ES SALAAM; July 20, 2026 – Tanzania's Minister of Finance, Hon. Khamis Mussa Omar (MP), has commended NMB Bank Plc for its significant contribution to the country's economic development through efficient government revenue collection and the provision of innovative financial services that continue to improve the lives of Tanzanians.

The Minister made the remarks during a meeting with an NMB delegation led by the bank's Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Ruth Zaipuna, at the Ministry of Finance's offices in Dar es Salaam.

Hon. Omar described NMB as one of the Government's most reliable strategic partners, noting that the bank has consistently delivered strong performance while supporting national development priorities.

"Overall, you have done an excellent job, including your dividend performance. We believe the Government will continue working closely with NMB in various areas, including tax collection and the provision of other financial services," said Hon. Omar.

He expressed confidence that the partnership between the Government and NMB will deliver even greater results in 2026, particularly in supporting economic growth, strengthening public financial management and expanding access to quality financial services.

A Trusted Partner in National Development

The Finance Minister further praised NMB for the successful implementation of its new five-year Strategic Plan, expressing optimism that the bank will continue expanding its footprint, introducing innovative products and reinforcing its position as one of Tanzania's leading financial institutions.

He noted that NMB's close collaboration with the Government creates additional opportunities to support public institutions and finance strategic development projects that contribute to the country's long-term economic transformation.

NMB Expands Digital Lending Services

Speaking during the meeting, NMB Bank CEO Ruth Zaipuna highlighted the bank's continued investment in digital financial solutions, announcing the launch of a new digital loan product that allows customers to borrow up to TZS 2 million without visiting a bank branch.

According to Zaipuna, the digital platform automatically assesses a customer's transaction history and determines loan eligibility electronically, making access to financing faster, simpler and more convenient.

She explained that the product has been designed to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), entrepreneurs and women by providing easier access to working capital needed to grow their businesses.

Promoting Financial Literacy

Zaipuna also emphasized that NMB continues to invest in financial education programmes aimed at helping customers borrow responsibly, manage their finances effectively and repay loans on time.

She said these initiatives are helping strengthen financial discipline while reducing challenges associated with limited financial knowledge among borrowers.

Investing Beyond Banking

Beyond financial services, Zaipuna reaffirmed NMB's commitment to creating sustainable social impact through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes.

Among the bank's flagship initiatives is the construction and rehabilitation of a special needs school in Bahi District, Dodoma Region, a project being implemented as part of the celebrations marking NMB's 25th anniversary.

She reiterated that the bank will continue investing in technology, expanding digital banking services and strengthening partnerships with the Government and other stakeholders to make banking services more accessible, secure and efficient for all Tanzanians.

Strengthening Tanzania's Financial Ecosystem

The meeting reflects the strong partnership between the Government and Tanzania's banking sector in advancing financial inclusion, digital transformation and sustainable economic growth.

As one of the country's largest financial institutions, NMB continues to play a pivotal role in supporting Government priorities while empowering individuals, businesses and communities through innovative banking solutions.

Conclusion

The Government's recognition of NMB underscores the bank's growing importance as a strategic partner in Tanzania's development agenda. Through continued innovation, responsible banking and strong public-private collaboration, NMB is helping build a more inclusive, resilient and digitally enabled economy.
