Singida, Tanzania – More than 4,000 residents of Iramba District in Singida Region have benefited from a free eye care medical camp organized by Yas Tanzania in collaboration with the Bilal Muslim Mission of Tanzania.
The outreach initiative comes at a critical time as eye-related health conditions continue to affect many people, particularly in rural communities where access to affordable and specialized healthcare services remains limited.
Speaking during the official launch, Singida Regional Commissioner Halima Dendego highlighted the prevalence of eye health challenges in the region. She urged residents to take full advantage of the free services, noting that such partnerships between the private sector and social institutions play a vital role in strengthening healthcare delivery systems across Tanzania.
The three-day medical camp offered a comprehensive range of services, including eye screening, medication, prescription glasses, specialist consultations, and minor cataract surgeries for eligible patients. According to Camp Coordinator Ain Sharif, the initiative was designed to reach as many underserved individuals as possible.
“The goal of this outreach was to serve people who lack access to eye care services. We managed to attend to over 4,000 patients within three days, supported by a dedicated team of specialist doctors and nurses,” he said.
Sharif further noted that patients requiring advanced treatment would be referred to higher-level health facilities, with special priority given to children to ensure vision challenges do not interfere with their education.
Representing the corporate partner, Yas’ Sales Area Manager in Singida, Emmanuel Kaminyonge, emphasized that the initiative reflects the company’s broader commitment to community development beyond its core telecommunications business.
The Iramba outreach underscores the growing importance of collaborative efforts in addressing public health challenges, particularly in underserved regions. By combining resources and expertise, organizations like Yas and the Bilal Muslim Mission are helping to restore sight, improve quality of life, and create lasting social impact in communities across Tanzania.
