BANKING ON CASHEW NUT: EXIM BANK TANZANIA COMMITTED TO OFFER EXCELLENT BANKING SERVICES TO CASHEW NUT STAKEHOLDERS IN MTWARA

Mtwara; October 31st, 2019: Exim Bank Tanzania has reaffirmed its commitment to support stakeholders on every step of the way in the cashew industry in Mtwara region so as to improve the cashew nut agricultural sector.

Being part of its drive to continue partnering with stakeholders in the growth of the nation’s economy, early this week, the bank organized a dinner for small and large-scale stakeholders of the cashew industry in Mtwara which had in attendance sector experts, the bank’s officials and high-level government officials.

“We are proud of our relationship with our customers as this is very important to us. As a bank, we have been able to achieve this height because our customers never stopped believing and using our services, and because of them we promise to do more,” said Andrew Lyimo, Exim Bank’s Head of Retail.

Lyimo said the bank has been supporting the cashew nut farmers and exporters for many years by providing seamless financial services throughout the supply chain. “We have had a presence in Mtwara for many years, supporting farmers and exporters by providing them with innovative financial products and services to grow their businesses”

For the past 5 years, the bank has been working with farmers through the Agricultural Marketing Cooperative Societies in Mtwara and Tandahimba, which is a platform that supports farmers with production, processing, transporting and marketing of various cash crops, according to Lyimo.

Speaking during the occasion, the Mtwara, Mikindani District Council Executive Director, Emanuel Mwaigobeko said, “the government is committed to ensuring the purchase of cashew nuts from farmers goes smoothly by preventing all acts aimed at spoiling the image of the government and the entire agricultural sector.”

Apart from commending the bank for its long live cooperation with the cashew stakeholders in Mtwara, Mwaigobeko called on other financial institutions in the region to help in providing financial education especially to small scale cashew stakeholders including farmers.
