Dar es Salaam. Ridesharing company, Uber invited its riders to an exciting boat cruise dubbed UberBOAT party. 34 lucky Uber riders got to party and cruise with Idris Sultan on an UberBOAT along the beaches in Dar es Salaam on Saturday 12th August 2018.
Also present at the UberBOAT cruise and party were Uber employees and local comedian and presenter Jaymondy. The company confirmed it is still not ready to launch the UberBOAT service in Tanzania yet but are hopeful about launching the product in the future.
The Uber marketing manager for East Africa, Ms Elizaberth Njeri said the decision to go into the boat riding business has come after the company got convinced that its taxi and Bajaj business models were getting stronger as days go by.
“Dar es Salaam is surrounded by wonderful beaches but residents are unable to enjoy that reality because they do not know how to get there….The Uberboat – which will be launched soon - will fill that gap,” she said without revealing the date for the actual launch.
“I cannot say when but it will be very soon…We will not end in Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar alone….We will go to other areas depending on market demand,” she said.
In countries where UberBOAT exists such as Croatia, the product provides a fast, reliable and comfortable experience for riders travelling from the mainland to nearby islands.
