21 March 2018 – Dar es Salaam. Stanbic Bank Tanzania has launched a women mentorship program dubbed ‘Ignite’, which aims to promote and empower the success of women in senior leadership roles within the Bank.

Speaking during the launch ceremony, Stanbic Bank’s Chief Executive Ken Cockerill said: “As an equal opportunity employer, we are committed to fostering inclusion and diversity across our operations. This includes striving for gender balance and enabling women to achieve their full potential. This initiative is aimed at developing senior female leaders within the Bank and, in so doing, igniting untapped value and opportunity in our people.”

He further stated that: ”This is a priority not just because we believe it’s the right thing to do, but there is also a solid business case for doing so, as numerous global studies conducted reveal that businesses with gender diversity in leadership generally achieve higher levels of performance.”

The Bank’s Head of Human Capital, Eutropia Vegula said the program will be facilitated by Strathmore Business School, and will run for an initial period of 6 months, with an intake of 25 women. Various topics will be covered, such as finding work/life balance, daring to take risks, and strategic and tactical thinking, among others.

“This program is designed to transform the potential of women in leadership into excellence in action. I want to encourage the program beneficiaries to use the learnings from this platform to elevate others through their conduct, attitude and results,” she urged.
