Zanzibar. ZANTEL has donated 3 used generators worth 250,000 USD to Karume Institute of science and technology of Zanzibar in support of the School’s efforts in ensuring that students continue with their studies even when the power is out.

Speaking during the handover ceremony in Zanzibar over the weekend, The company’s, Head in Zanzibar, Mr. Mohamed Mussa Baucha said the donation was meant to help the college students with their studies as an alternative means of power once electricity goes out and expressed his hope that students will be encouraged to perform well as a result.

“We are pleased to donate the generators to this Institute, and it is our sincere hope that the generators will assist the students in their studies,” said Baucha.

He added that ZANTEL would continue investing in various sustainable projects by supporting initiatives that focus on improving education in the country.

Abdulhamid Idrissa Haji, who is the Director of the Institute, said that the donation came at the right time because the college lacked alternative sources of power, once electricity went out.

“Lack of electricity in schools, hinders students’ morale in studying science subjects and capability of understanding them accurately.”

He thanked Zantel for their valuable support towards improving the quality of education and urged other companies to emulate their example.

“This will not only be a big boost in academic performance but will raise students’ morale,” concluded Haji.

A student at the Institute by the name Abdulkadir Mkubwa Khamis who is pursuing science subjects, said Zantel’s donation will enable them to improve their performance and as well solve some of the challenges that they were previously facing.

“Frequent blackouts have been affecting our studies, but with this donation, I believe our problems will be very much solved,” he concluded.

Last year, Zantel donated books worth 10M/- to the Institute in a bid to end shortage of teaching and learning materials at the Institution.
