DSE SHARE INDICES START WEEK TEN ON A HIGH

Dar es Salaam. Share prices of almost all companies trading on the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSE) opened this week in the green.

The DSE daily market report on Monday showed that all shares index (DSEI) closed at 2,169.63 -- 45.63 per cent.

Higher than at last week’s close.

The Tanzania Share Index (TSI) closed at 3,867 -- 41.66 per cent higher than last week’s close. It was the highest in ten months.

Uchumi Supermarkets’ share price was Sh80 yesterday, 14.29 per cent higher than that of last week. However, Tanzania Cigarette Company performed dismally.

Share prices of Tanzania Breweries Limited also appreciated.

Share prices of cross-listed companies such as NMG, KCB, Kenya Airways, EABL, Acacia and Jubilee Holdings also rose as the Tanzanian shilling lost ground minimally against the Kenyan currency on Monday.

The Bank of Tanzania has shown that the Kenyan shilling exchanged at buying and selling prices of 21.57/21.74 on Friday last week to 21.60/21.77 yesterday.

DSE market capitalisation was Sh20.8 trillion at the start of the week, up from Sh20.4 billion the previous week.

Analysts say the market has an oversupply of shares on offer.
