About the Dar es Salaam Charity Goat Races

The Dar es Salaam Charity Goat Races aims to raise funds for charities in Tanzania and at the same time hope to create a wider awareness in the community that there are those less fortunate than themselves who need our support. The Races bring the community together for a fun, family day out.

Since the first goats raced in 2001, the Dar es Salaam Charity Goat Races have quickly grown to become Dar’s premier charity event.

The idea of a goat-racing event, started in Uganda, where in 1993, members of the business community came up with a novel way of raising money for charity. They introduced the Goat Races, modeled on the UK Royal Ascot horse races, except with a rather more practical beastie for East Africa - the racing goat.

Each year the Dar es Salaam Charity Goat Races raise millions of shillings to support small local organizations and charities to carry out their work, and support their local community.
