Tanga - The Karimjee Jivanjee Foundation (KJF) has donated 100 desks worth Tsh.11 million to Mkwakwani Secondary School in Tanga. This donation was made to support the government’s effort to offset the existing countrywide shortage of desks in primary and secondary schools.

Speaking at a handover ceremony held at Mkwakwani Secondary School in Tanga municipality, the Karimjee Jivanjee Group and Toyota Tanzania Executive Director, Yusuf Karimjee said the donation is part of KJF’s commitment to supporting the education sector in Tanzania and investment on social projects that enrich people’s lives. We believe that through this donation, KJF is playing a role in shaping the future leaders, business executives and experts who will contribute to the growth of our nation,” he said.

He said that KJF did not want to wait for the government to call upon them for support due to its longstanding commitment and proactive support to education in Tanzania. Having always believed that education is the foundation upon which a stronger Tanzania shall be built; the foundation intends to continue its engagement with the education sector, as it has for close to seven decades. The handover of the desks was accompanied by the assurance that their support will not end there, as they work with other schools in Tanga, and contribute to this key sector in a number of other ways as well.

The handover was witnessed by Tanga Regional Commissioner (RC) Hon. Martin Shigella who said the desks will greatly improve the learning conditions for students at the school calling upon other well-wishers to come forward and join the effort to offset the remaining shortage of desks in the region. The RC expressed his gratitude that KJF was putting Tanga high on its list. He commended KJF, the Karimjee Jivanjee Group, and Toyota Tanzania for looking at other regions of this vast country that would also need support from the private sector.

The Mkwakwani Secondary School Headmaster, Kavumo Mziray thanked KJF and promised that the desks will provide favorable environment needed for effective learning and will help the school in its pursuit for academic excellence.

2016 marks 69 years since the Karimjee Jivanjee family first built what is now known as Mkwakwani Secondary School in Bombo, Tanga. Since then, the family has continued to work closely with the government-run school and others in the country in line with their commitment to education in the region, and Tanzania as a whole.
