ECONOMIC DIPLOMACY'S EXECUTION PLAN OUT TODAY

Foreign Affairs and East African Co-operation Minister, Dr Augustine Mahiga.
Foreign Affairs and East African Co-operation Minister Dr Augustine Mahiga is today expected to issue a brief of deliberations made by Tanzanian envoys accredited to overseas missions in their various meetings.

All the ambassadors and high commissioners are currently in the country for a series of meetings following a directive by President John Magufuli.

Dr Mahiga told the ‘Daily News’ in a telephone interview yesterday that the envoys are expected to meet again today at the Mwalimu Nyerere Convention Centre for an exit meeting that will put in place the implementation plan of all the deliberations.

President Magufuli told Tanzanian ambassadors and High Commissioners who are working in overseas missions on Friday evening that the issue of economic diplomacy should be in sharp focus towards industrial investment. He held the meeting with the ambassadors and high commissioners at the State House in Dar es Salaam.

The meeting was also attended by Vice-President, Ms Samia Suluhu Hassan and Prime Minister, Mr Kassim Majaliwa. Dr Magufuli, who led the discussions on issues relating to ambassadorial activities, said Tanzania had set objectives in a quest to boost the industrial sector from 7.3 per cent to 15 per cent by the year 2021 and create employment by 40 per cent.

The president recalled all ambassadors and high commissioners for a special meeting to give them the country’s direction and how they would chip in to promote investments in industries, Dr Mahiga said.
