TIN UPDATE EXERCISE GOES ON WELL

THE Tanzania Revenue Authority’s (TRA) exercise to update details regarding taxpayers Identification Number (TIN) is so far going on well and with huge turnout of taxpayers at different identified data update centres.

The Director of Education and Taxpayer Services, Mr Richard Kayombo said yesterday that since the commencement of the details update exercise on September 15, this year, there has been a good response from the public.

“So far there is a good response from the public, we are grateful that people understand our aim and thus we expect more people to appear for the exercise,” he said.
According to Mr Kayombo, TRA is conducting TINs details update exercise purposely to get clear information on taxpayers.
 He said TRA has changed its system of preserving taxpayers information and that every taxpayers who owns a Tin must verify his number so that it could be updated to the new system. 
He said the new system is in accordance to the changes of technology.
“We are not the first institution to conduct this exercise, many organizations such as National Electoral Commission (NEC), National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) always update information on their members,” he noted.
According to Mr Kayombo, the tax collectors are cleaning up their database to make sure there is active TIN.
He added that upon completion of the verification exercise, taxpayers will be given new TINs certificate.
