AIRTEL EXPANDS NETWORK COVERAGE WITH THREE NEW TOWERS IN MOROGORO & KILIMANJARO

Airtel Tanzania has launched three (3) new communication towers in the Kilimanjaro and Morogoro regions as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance network connectivity for customers living in both urban and rural areas. Pictured is Gibson Renatus, the Airtel Manager for the Gairo Zone in  Morogoro.

Morogoro & Kilimanjaro, 11 December 2025 — Airtel Tanzania has continued to advance its nationwide network expansion efforts with the successful construction and commissioning of three new communication towers across the Morogoro and Kilimanjaro regions. The new sites are set to significantly enhance connectivity, improve service delivery, and boost socio-economic opportunities for thousands of residents.

The Morogoro region leads with the installation of two towers—one at Magoweko Ward in Gairo District and another at Kihonda VETA. In Kilimanjaro, a new tower has been built in Sanya Juu, Hai District, bringing the total number of new sites to three. These installations are expected to resolve long-standing connectivity gaps and support growth in education, commerce, digital services, and community development.

Speaking at the launch, Faustine Mtui, Airtel Tanzania’s Kilimanjaro Zonal Manager, reaffirmed Airtel’s commitment to advancing national development:

This investment reaffirms Airtel’s dedication to supporting the government’s vision of expanding communication services and creating livelihoods for young people. Our focus remains on delivering reliable, affordable, and inclusive network coverage to underserved areas.”

Airtel’s presence is already creating positive ripple effects in Gairo District, where over 300 youth currently earn through mobile money agency services. With improved connectivity from the new tower, more employment opportunities are expected to emerge, along with expanded access to financial and commercial services.

Representing local leadership, Magoweko Ward Councillor Shabani Sajilo emphasized the importance of the new infrastructure:

For years, the lack of a reliable network affected economic activities, disrupted day-to-day business, and hindered emergency communication. This tower is a long-awaited solution and will greatly enhance productivity across our community.”

Residents have also expressed their excitement. Happy Sembwa, a community member from Magoweko, shared:

Lack of communication services made it difficult to access important information, conduct financial transactions, and reach loved ones during emergencies. With Airtel’s service now available, we expect new opportunities in online business, digital learning, and easier access to government services.”

To celebrate the launch, Airtel introduced a three-day special promotion for residents using the newly activated towers, offering 50 cross-network minutes, 500 MB of data, and 50 SMS as a token of appreciation.

These new sites mark another milestone in Airtel Tanzania’s broader strategy to bridge the digital divide, improve community safety, and drive socio-economic development across the country.
