Dar es Salaam, Tanzania:
Vodacom Tanzania PLC has once again demonstrated its commitment to empowering women and youth through sports by sponsoring the 2025 Dar es Salaam Basketball League (BDL), which concluded with thrilling finals at the Don Bosco Oysterbay grounds.
In the women’s category, DB Lioness emerged champions — a milestone that underscores the rapid growth of women’s basketball in Tanzania. The victory highlights expanding opportunities for female athletes and Vodacom’s continued contribution toward gender equality and sports development.
On the men’s side, Dar City Basketball clinched the championship title, with player Amini Juma receiving a symbolic cheque worth TZS 10 million from Vodacom Tanzania PLC’s Director of ICT, Mr. Athumani Mlinga. This contribution forms part of Vodacom’s broader youth empowerment initiative aimed at nurturing local talent and inspiring the next generation of athletes.
The event, held over the weekend, brought together Vodacom staff, basketball officials, and enthusiastic fans — showcasing the power of sports in fostering unity and Vodacom’s role as a key partner in shaping the future of Tanzania’s sporting landscape.
