VODACOM TANZANIA EMPOWERS WOMEN AND YOUTH THROUGH BASKETBALL SPONSORSHIP

Vodacom Tanzania Plc’s Director of ICT, Mr. Athumani Mlinga, presents a TZS 10 million cheque to Amini Juma, a player from Dar City Basketball, after the team was crowned champions of the 2025 Dar es Salaam Basketball League (BDL) in the men’s category. The event, held over the weekend at the Don Bosco Oysterbay grounds, is part of Vodacom’s initiative to empower youth, promote basketball, and nurture emerging talent in Tanzania.

Vodacom Tanzania PLC has once again demonstrated its commitment to empowering women and youth through sports by sponsoring the 2025 Dar es Salaam Basketball League (BDL), which concluded with thrilling finals at the Don Bosco Oysterbay grounds.

In the women’s category, DB Lioness emerged champions — a milestone that underscores the rapid growth of women’s basketball in Tanzania. The victory highlights expanding opportunities for female athletes and Vodacom’s continued contribution toward gender equality and sports development.

On the men’s side, Dar City Basketball clinched the championship title, with player Amini Juma receiving a symbolic cheque worth TZS 10 million from Vodacom Tanzania PLC’s Director of ICT, Mr. Athumani Mlinga. This contribution forms part of Vodacom’s broader youth empowerment initiative aimed at nurturing local talent and inspiring the next generation of athletes.
