TANZANIA PASSPORT APPLICATION FORMS NOW GO ONLINE

10 August 2017, Dodoma - Dodoma Regional Immigration Officer Peter Kundy has cautioned residents over the growing problem of conmen who impersonate immigration officers with promises to unsuspecting victims that they could help them get passports.

Mr Kundy told reporters here yesterday that the Immigration Department doesn’t have any agents for its services, saying residents should report any person who claims to work on behalf of the department.

He was speaking to reporters here yesterday when they visited the department’s pavilion at Nzuguni grounds at the Agriculture Exhibition.

He noted that the Immigration Department has started issuing passport application online in a bid to avoid inconvenience to applicants currently forced to physically visit its offices to collect the application forms.

“Under the new system, passport applicants do not need to physically meet any person…just to avoid incon veniences,” he said. He also said the department had been working with the National Identification Authority (NIDA) to ensure undocumented migrants who could attempt to disrupt the exercise were tamed.

Mr Kundy said a passport applicant could now download the application form from their website and filling it out, saying passport applicant should attach the form with other documents required before submitting them to the Department Offices.

He further noted that the Department has embarked on the public campaign to raise awareness to illegal immigrants who use the country as their gateway to South Africa.

“We need citizens to play role in our effort to curb the problem of illegal immigrants by tipping off the security organs on the suspects,” said the Regional Immigration Officer.

Mr Kundy pointed out that the campaign will be conducted from division level to regional level and that the campaign will also involve village leaders.
